The city plans to turn a block of Dartmouth Street between the Boston Public Library and Copley Square into a plaza.

Copley Connect is a City of Boston pilot program that will explore the possibility of transforming a block of Dartmouth Street between Copley Square and the Boston Public Library into a plaza space. Boston Department of Transportation

The block of Dartmouth Street in downtown Boston, from St. James Avenue to Boylston Street, will be closed for the next 10 days as part of a city pilot program to explore the possibility of using the area as a plaza space.

This particular section is the block that separates the Boston Public Library and Copley Square, and under the program, called Copley Connect, the city is temporarily transforming it into place from June 7-17.

During the program, the space will be used for library activities, expansion of a farmer’s market, cafe seating, food trucks, live performances, block parties, outdoor yoga, classes dance, etc., according to the city’s website.

During the block closure, the City will consider the effect of the block closure on traffic in Back Bay. It said it would collect data before, during and after the program on the number of cars, bicycles and pedestrians, as well as travel times, for 13 intersections and four car routes near the block that could be affected.

The City hopes to receive feedback on the project, which, in tandem with the data, will be used to inform the future use of the space as a place.

Copley Square and the Boston Public Library are undergoing improvement projects during the program.
