Helldivers 2 has been pulled from Steam in 170 countries without PSN access, while Valve ignores its own policy to issue refunds for players with over 100 hours
The Helldivers 2 debacle has reached hellish new lows as the best-selling game of the year is now unavailable on Steam in over 170 countries.
Earlier this week, publisher Sony announced that all PC players of Helldivers 2 would soon have to sign in to an active PlayStation Network account or risk losing access to the game, a requirement that was once just an option at launch and which has since led to thousands of negative user reviews. hit the once very popular shooter.
A Helldivers 2 community manager assured yesterday that people living in countries without PSN coverage could continue to play the game and would not be blocked. But now, Helldivers 2 has been removed from over 170 territories without PSN coverage, according to Steam Database listings. While some global players won’t be able to join the fight and purchase the game, it’s unclear whether existing Helldivers 2 owners will be able to continue playing if they live in unsupported regions.

Either way, it’s a blow to Helldivers 2 – a game that became one of Sony’s all-time bestsellers thanks to the PC version – and it raises questions about why which the game was available in these territories to begin with, especially if the PSN mandate was always intended, as Sony indicated in its announcement note.
Ignoring its own policies, Steam Valve officials were also reportedly deliverance refunds to several long-time Helldivers who connected in Super Earth space for over 100 hours. Steam’s policy normally doesn’t allow refunds if a player exceeds two hours of gameplay, but since the PSN requirement came months after launch, Valve appears to (rightly) be making an exception.
A Helldivers 2 developer recently reiterated that the PSN change came from Sony, not the talented team at Arrowhead Studios, so issuing refunds is probably the most effective way to get a message across, rather than shouting at the toxicity to developers. Sony also announced the mandate on a Friday and therefore has yet to officially respond to the backlash that has escalated quite wildly in just a few days.
