Helldivers 2 community manager seemingly fired after encouraging negative reviews over now-canceled PSN mandate: “I knew I was taking a risk with what I said”
A Helldivers 2 community manager claims he was fired after encouraging negative reviews on Steam in response to Sony’s recently reversed decision to mandate linking of PlayStation Network accounts.
Following the announcement last week that players of Helldivers 2 on PC would be forced to link their PSN accounts to continue playing the game, an absolute tsunami of backlash hit Sony and Arrowhead. As the noise of protests continued to grow, community manager Spitz began actively encouraging players to make their voices heard, as it would give Arrowhead “more leverage in discussions with Sony” to overturn the decision. Well, over 200,000 negative reviews were posted to Helldivers 2’s Steam page shortly after Sony announced the change, and ultimately the decision was reversed, but not without taking a significant toll.
On the official Helldivers 2 Discord channel, Spitz revealed that he is no longer a community manager for Arrowhead and does not work for the studio at all. They also clarified that it was not a voluntary exit.
“In general, it’s not a good idea to tell people to refund and leave negative reviews when you’re a community manager. TIL,” Spitz said. “I appreciate all the support and I appreciate even more that everyone can play the game again without restrictions. I knew I was taking a risk with what I said regarding refunds and changing reviews. I maintain it. It was my job to represent the community, that’s what I did.
They added: “I wanted to work for Arrowhead because it’s my favorite studio of all time. I had that chance. I’m grateful for the opportunity. I would happily continue working for them if I had the choice , but that It’s not up to me or anyone else here I can walk away happy and I don’t want anyone to cause trouble on my behalf, especially not to people I still have a lot of love for. attention and respect.
Without knowing the full situation (I’ve reached out to Arrowhead for comment), it’s hard to say exactly what prompted Spitz’s apparent firing, but whether it was solely based on him encouraging players to let Bad reviews I think it’s safe to say. they came down to fight the good fight.
In the meantime, Helldivers 2 grunts want the PSN drama to be immortalized as an in-game cape, and the developers are already working on “a good name for it.”.
