None of the top House leaders – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) And Clyburn – have plans to step down from their posts, although Pelosi has committed to two terms. as president in 2018.
While several Democrats have said they see a scenario in which all three will retain power, others have predicted that if the party loses the House in 2022, an automatic power change could be considered.
Clyburn also said he would back Pelosi if she decides to keep the hammer, though his response was a bit cloudy when asked if he would compete for the top job.
“God, I was born and raised in South Carolina, you learned that I spent my whole life contemplating,” Clyburn said in an interview with CNN. “I’m still thinking.”
