Heat’s Jimmy Butler mocks ‘sorry’ reporter for asking about schedule

There are few shadowy NBA players like Jimmy Butler, and the Heat superstar lived up to his usual tricks on Monday as he mocked a reporter at a press conference .

It all started innocently enough, with the reporter – apparently Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel – asking Butler if he found the rest of the Heat’s schedule difficult. Winderman was right: five of Miami’s last seven opponents are themselves participating in the playoff race.

However, Butler took this question as an opportunity to poke fun at Winderman: “Maybe if your sorry ass was on our team, that would be difficult,” Butler laughed. “I think everything will be fine.”

To his credit, Winderman took it in stride, and Butler’s beard was certainly in a good mood. He even said “I love you” at the end of his answer. The talented wing just finds ways to have fun at press conferences – whether it’s calling journalists, teammates, or even former teammates.

It’s nice to see Butler sticking around as a Heat jockey for the position in the Eastern Conference standings. On Monday, they are 35-30 and tied with the Hawks for the No. 5 seed in the tight East. Both teams are 1.5 games behind the fourth-seeded Knicks and one game ahead of the Celtics, currently the Eastern play-in tournament seed.

It doesn’t matter if the Heat’s schedule is in fact difficult to move forward, Butler and Co. will have to bring their A-game to avoid slipping to the seventh seed. Otherwise, they’ll find themselves playing in the inaugural NBA Bubble-Free Play-In Tournament.
