Head-on car crash in Townsend kills driver and sends 6 others to hospital

One person died in a car crash in Townsend on Monday afternoon, Townsend Police said Tuesday.

Police say around 5:35 p.m. they were sent to the area of ​​Route 119 Main Street, near the intersection with Route 13, for a car accident report.

Upon arrival, officers said they discovered that two vehicles had collided head-on and several people in both vehicles had been injured.

The seven people in the vehicles, including three people from the sedan and four people from the SUV, were taken to hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the sedan has since died of his injuries.

Police said their preliminary investigation indicated the sedan was traveling westbound on Highway 119 when it crossed the center line and collided with the SUV, which was traveling in the opposite direction.

The crash is still under investigation by Townsend Police, Massachusetts State Police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
