The attack occurred while the farmer was installing a fence near the Finnis River last month in the Northern Territory region, reports local media outlet ABC News.
“The water started moving, I took two steps and (the crocodile) clung to my leg,” says Colin Deveraux. He shook me off and went back into the water.”
The man in his mid-60s claims he tried to hit the 3.2 meter long animal with his foot before biting it near the eyes.
“I was in a weird position and by accident my teeth hit his eyelids,” he said. They were thick, a bit like leather. I held on to it and it let go. I was then able to walk away to my car.”
His brother then took him to the hospital, where he received treatment for a month.
“The biggest problem was removing the bad bacteria from the wound,” says Mr. Deveraux.
He was then able to receive a skin graft and was recently released from hospital.
