Indian equity benchmarks BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 are expected to get off to a slightly positive start on Friday as investors await the outcome of the RBI’s first bi-monthly monetary policy committee meeting for FY23. As of 8:56 a.m., Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX) Nifty futures – an early indicator of the Nifty50 index – were up 12.5 points or 0.1% to 17,751, after rising 31.5 points earlier in the day.

Equities in other Asian markets started the day in the red as attention returned to the prospect of aggressive monetary policy tightening in the pandemic era. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific stocks outside of Japan fell 0.4% in the early morning hours.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.3%, China’s Shanghai Composite 0.2% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng 0.4%. South Korea’s KOSPI fell 0.1% and Singapore’s Straits Times 0.5%.

S&P 500 futures were flat. On Thursday, the S&P 500 rose 0.4%, the Dow Jones 0.3% and the Nasdaq Composite 0.1%.
