Hayes ready to withdraw Calcio credentials in huge Champions League clash at Juventus

mma Hayes is delighted to test her Calcio credentials against Italian champions Juventus, having received an education from the country’s top footballers.

But a visit to his father’s country also represents a personal moment for Hayes, who “grew up” with rivals of his opponent, AC Milan, and fell in love with Franco Baresi, Marco van Basten and Paolo Maldini.

She said: “Italian teams are known to have an incredible understanding of what it takes to win football matches.

“This is the home of a brilliant defense. On the men’s side, they are European champions and I have immense respect for Italian football.

“I have an Italian father, so I know it will be as difficult a task as against Wolfsburg.”

Chelsea returned to national form with five rebound wins after losing to Arsenal on Matchday 1. And Hayes believes his stars are confident of securing a first Champions League victory in a bid to fight for the trophy again.

She added: “It’s just another great game, we’ve already had some good tests so far.

“I know we have a dressing room that really enjoys playing in the Champions League and we are looking forward to playing against the best team in Italy.

“I am certainly the happiest to play against teams that I don’t know too well.”
