Tony Cascarino believes Harry Maguire’s career at Manchester United could change significantly under Erik ten Hag next season.
The Dutchman has been unveiled as the club’s new manager and has already started preparing the squad for what will be a huge season for the club.
Maguire is one player who could find his role at Old Trafford in question with speculation that Ten Hag could be looking to appoint a new team captain, as well as sign a new centre-back.
As things stand, the 29-year-old is a first-choice defender for Gareth Southgate and England, and has been named in the starting XI for Saturday’s Nations League clash against Hungary – LIVE on talkSPORT.
However, according to Cascarino, everything could change if his position with Manchester United is threatened.
Speaking at the weekend’s Sports Breakfast, Cascarino told talkSPORT: “I think his career is going to change a little bit next year because with Erik ten Hag coming to Man United, what do you think- about Harry Maguire?
“You could have a scenario where he plays very well for England, comes at the start of the season and doesn’t play under Ten Hag for Man United.
“What is Gareth Southgate doing then? It is a possible scenario.

“It’s not unlikely because there will be a lot of scapegoating after what happened at United last year.
“Last season was dreadful and there will be scapegoats and Harry Maguire could be one of them.
“Ten Hag could go so far as to say ‘he’s not for me’. That happens sometimes in club football.
“He could be second fiddle or on the bench and then Gareth might not have one of his main men, even if he hasn’t let him down.
“Is Gareth brave enough to select a player who is not at his club, if that was the scenario, and then select him for the World Cup?
“There are a number of English players who have played better for England than for their club.
“Harry had a really difficult season. They could never find him a partner. Raphael Varane came into the club, it didn’t work out with Victor Lindelof, and he even ended the season playing with Phil Jones .
“It was tricky, but there were a lot of problems at Old Trafford.”
