Harry Kane reveals the influence of Wayne Rooney and Hugo Lloris on the English captaincy

Tottenham skipper Lloris lifted the trophy with France in Russia four years ago and holds the armband at Kane’s club, while the striker is also his country’s captain.

Kane, 28, was first able to learn from England’s top scorer Rooney on his debut at the Three Lions side before moving into what he considers a ‘natural’ position.

“You learn from the captains you’ve played with,” he told the Mail on Sunday.

“I had Wayne when I came to the team, I had Hugo for a long time. You take on different things along the way, but I always realized I was a leader in the dressing room.

“I always said what I thought and tried to lead by example. Captaining England is no different. I try to give this example. For each player who arrives, I try to know him as much as possible and to understand him.

“When we’re on the pitch, I’m just myself. I try not to think about it too much. But of course that comes with extra responsibility off the pitch, with press conferences and being a good role model. and all of those things. But it’s kind of natural for me. I enjoy the role.
