Harry Kane ‘pushed to his limits’ by Antonio Conte as he praises Tottenham boss – but won’t be drawn to his club’s future

HArry Kane is enjoying life under Antonio Conte but will not be drawn into speculation over his future at Tottenham beyond this season.

Kane was keen to leave Spurs last summer due to a lack of silverware, with Manchester City being his preferred destination.

Kane has quashed rumors surrounding his future

Tottenham have rebuffed all four bids from Manchester City for their star, and after a turnaround the England international has decided to stay in north London and has scored 12 times so far this season.

Kane has made it clear his intentions are to start winning trophies, something he failed to do during his long spell at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

And while City persisted in trying to sign Kane last summer and were still actively looking for a new centre-forward, they are unlikely to make a new approach for him given he turns 29 in July.

He was asked if he should consider sorting out his future ahead of the World Cup with England in November.

“Obviously my main goal is to finish this season first and foremost,” Kane said.

“We are still in competition for the top four. I can’t control what will happen in the future. It’s a big year for everyone, not just me.

“It’s about controlling what I can control and doing what I can on the pitch. It’s important during the summer to stay focused on that and look forward to a fantastic tournament.

When asked if he had spoken to Antonio Conte about his future, Kane replied: “I’m not going to get into a personal discussion between me and the manager.

“My main objective is to finish the season as best as possible. We have a big race to finish in the top four. The next ten games are all I’m focusing on.

The 28-year-old continues to be linked with a Tottenham exit

The 28-year-old, however, underlined the importance of Conte and praised the Italian since joining Spurs.

“He’s a fantastic coach, we get on really well,” Kane said.

“He brings ideas to the game, how he wants me and the strikers to play. I learned different aspects of the game with him.

“I feel better physically knowing that we train and work hard every day. I feel the benefit of this in how I feel physically and mentally with this sharpness. I am really well placed.

“I’m in good shape but I feel like I can keep improving and Antonio will definitely keep pushing me to my limits. I like having someone like that as my manager.

Chingford-born Kane has been at Spurs since joining their academy aged 11.

He is their second all-time goalscorer with 243 goals – 23 behind Jimmy Greaves and 35 ahead of Bobby Smith.

For now, his focus is on England as they take on Switzerland on Saturday March 26 and Ivory Coast three days later in friendlies.

Southgate hopes Kane will help England to glory

The matches will be a key part of Southgate’s squad preparation for this year’s 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Kane hopes to continue his fine goalscoring form and help propel his country to glory in eight months.

And he believes the injury from losing the Euro 2020 final last summer can help propel England to glory.

“From where we were before the 2018 World Cup to where we are now, we’ve made tremendous progress, with the team, with the team, with connecting with the fans,” Kane said. “There is definitely an expectation on us now.

“Obviously the summer final always hurts. It always has a bitter taste in your mouth, but it definitely makes you hungrier, more fire in your stomach to go further and try to win a major tournament.

“We are working in this direction, we have the impression of improving every year. I hope we can make great strides to become one of the best teams in the history of the England national team.
