Harnessed races selections: Sunday May 1st

There are two meetings to watch on Sunday, Parkes at Forbes and Swan Hill catching my eye. Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Parkes at Forbes

Best bet: Race 8, Number 1, Eagle Commander
He is clearly the best on the card. It’s a significant drop in depth for him, but the big, big tick draws the first door. And with his gate speed, he’s the one they have to beat, especially on a tight track like Parkes. The recent form is nothing exceptional, but the card seems to him ideal to bounce in the list of winners.

Next Best: Race 2, Number 1, Africana
Its better see her win and I will bet on her production. I was very keen on her chances at this track on the last start, but she didn’t use the gate to her advantage and failed to pull in a single effort. At her best, she should find her head comfortably and she would just be too good to them if she was right to leave.

Value: Race 6, Number 2, Harley James
This horse is a great one-way point from a map perspective. He’s ten years old, but he still has a healthy taste for racing. He’s been drawn pretty poorly in recent races, but he’s getting a barrier to use, which will likely bring the leaders back. From this position, it will only perform well at a decent price.

Swan Hill

Best bet: Race 7, Number 3, Classic Mix Up
She gets pretty expensive from a betting perspective, but she finds a very thin run here and she wins. This horse tried out as a jet before her debut and she failed to live up to the hype. But despite that, she didn’t get far. This horse should find the front and be too lively.

Next Best: Race 3, Number 6, Loyola Rocknrolla
He flies and even if he shoots far, I’m pretty committed to his chances. He ran a few times at the recent Mildura Cup carnival and ran very well, possessing good gate speed. That’s why I love it here and I love booking Jack Laugher, who is an aggressive driver. He’ll ride like he’s the best horse in the race and he is.

Value: Race 1, Number 1, All is well
It is worth a 1×3 bet in the first game. He hasn’t been too far lately in recent races, but hasn’t been helped by bad gates, where he’s had to do too much work. He has a good door to hold on to as a striker, probably bring the leaders back, and from there he will only perform well at a price.
