Hardik Pandya’s leadership has been impressive throughout IPL 2022, says Rahul Dravid

India head coach Rahul Dravid has praised Hardik Pandya, saying his role as captain at Gujarat Titans was ‘impressive’ throughout the tournament which led them to win the title in their first season. Hardik had never captained a National or National Tour team before IPL 2022.

Hardik Pandya made a dream comeback in IPL 2022, helping Gujarat Titans win the Indian Premier League (IPL) in their first season this year. The versatile star contributed with both bat and ball throughout the season, and also went from strength to strength in the final, against Rajasthani Royals at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. He deservedly received player of the match in the summit clash.

After his decent outing in IPL 2022, India’s current head coach Rahul Dravid praised Hardik for playing an important role for his franchise. Dravid particularly credited Hardik’s quality of leadership and called it “impressive”.

“I just met Hardik a few hours ago. For the guys who played the final, we gave them an extra day off. But I think his leadership was very impressive throughout the IPL. He performed very well,” Dravid said in the pre-match press conference ahead of India’s five-match T20I series against South Africa.

“In that sense, you don’t have to be nominated as a leader to be part of a leadership group. It’s not just about nominating Hardik to a position. At this point, it’s really it’s good from our perspective that he’s started bowling again, we know what it does for us and what his bowling can add to our depth.

Moreover, speaking about Hardik’s role in Team India from now on, Dravid commented: “It’s about making sure we can get the most out of him as a cricketer, in terms of bowling, hitting and fielding, and in terms of what happens next, it depends on a lot of factors. The selectors will make that decision, depending on what happens in the future.”

India’s next five-match series against South Africa kicks off on June 9 in Delhi.
