Hardik Pandya or Shikhar Dhawan could lead India’s squad for South Africa’s T20Is

According to a report by PTI, Hardik Pandya or Shikhar Dhawan count for the captaincy duties for the upcoming T20Is against South Africa and Ireland. The report also states that many senior players including Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul need to be rested for the five game T20I series against Proteas.

The 2022 Indian Premier League has entered its commercial phase and the Indian team will host South Africa for a five-game T20I series after the tournament ends. The series will kick off on June 9, and the last T20I in the series will be played on June 19. The series team will likely be selected on May 22.

According to a PTI report, Shikhar Dhawan or Hardik Pandya could lead the national team in the series. Pandya has impressed everyone with his captaincy in the IPL and Dhawan has been good while leading the team in the past. These two actors are vying for the leadership role. A source confirmed the PTI update.

“The coaches have several choices. Shikhar Dhawan as he already captained India in the absence of Virat, Rohit and Rahul in last year’s Sri Lanka series. But Hardik Pandya’s impressive captain for the Gujarat Titans has not gone unnoticed will be a close call,” a senior BCCI a source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

The report also indicates that many senior players will be rested for the series, including Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. The team’s management needs its key players to be fit for the test match against England in early July. The source says the test match against England in July is paramount and all key players will play a crucial role there.

“All senior Indian players will be given at least three and a half weeks of full rest. Rohit, Virat, KL, Rishabh and Jasprit will all go straight to England for the ‘fifth test’ after the series of white balls. We need all our key players to stay fresh for the English series,” he explained.
