Aintree winner Happygolucky has been ruled out for the season with a minor tendon injury, coach Kim Bailey told Sky Sports Racing.
Bailey’s seven-year-old finished second in the Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival this year, after a victory at Aintree in April in the Grade Three Betway Handicap Chase.
The victory earned Happygolucky a 157 rating and saw him drop to 33/1 for next year’s Grand National.
Owned by Lady Dulverton, Jeremy’s son has won three of his five closing starts, most notably at the Cheltenham reunion in December last year.
Happygolucky has never been out of the venue in any of his nine career races, including finishing fourth in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in 2020.
Defending champion Minella Times is the common favorite (20/1, Sky Bet) with Ted Walsh’s Any Second Now for the 2022 Grand National.
Watch Kim Bailey showcase her 2021/22 jumping season stars live on Sky Sports Racing on Thursday, September 16 at 11:55 am.
