SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Habitat for Humanity in San Francisco announced Tuesday that it has received a record investment from Mackenzie Scott, philanthropist and ex-wife of Jeff Bezos. The organization claims that this money will be used immediately.

“It’s breathtaking, it’s transformative, it’s empowering, you know, it’s so many things,” said Maureen Sedonaen, CEO of the San Francisco chapter.

“We will build 250 affordable homeownership opportunities over the next six years. We will complete 400 essential repairs.”

Sedonaen said it will help them develop the homes they plan to build in Novato and other areas of the Bay Area.

“It allows us to engage and serve thousands of people,” Sedonaen said. “It’s hundreds of families to get them into first-time homeownership, moving people up the pipeline from listing without a home to the rental market and then into homeownership.”
