Gwyneth Paltrow will soon be lighting candles for her 50th birthday, but until then, she is reflecting on what this milestone means to her.
The Iron Man The actress posted a black-and-white bikini photo to Instagram on Sept. 22, which she linked to a lengthy personal essay on self-acceptance. As Paltrow approaches her own special day on September 27, she said she feels the weight of the moment as a time of growth and reflection.
She reflected on how aging has changed her body, including “silver hair and fine lines.”
“My body, a map of everyday evidence, is less timeless,” she writes. “Scars from oven burns, a broken finger in a window a long time ago, the birth of a child.”
Paltrow, however, said she accepts these signs of aging on her body.
“And while I do what I can to strive for good health and longevity, to avoid weakening muscles and receding bones, I have a mantra that I insert into these reckless thoughts that try to derail: I agree,” she wrote on Goop, the website of her wellness and lifestyle company. “I accept the marks and sagging skin, the wrinkles. I accept my body and let go of the need to be perfect, to look perfect, to defy gravity, to defy logic, to challenge humanity. I accept my humanity.”
