GWS Giants pick Aaron Cadman at No. 1 to replace Jeremy Cameron

Greater Western Sydney have decided to fill the void left by Jeremy Cameron’s departure two years ago, signing a similar player first in the AFL Draft.

The Giants picked up Aaron Cadman with a pick on Monday night.

Cadman has drawn strong comparisons to Cameron, who played for the Giants before leaving for Geelong in 2020 and winning a premiership with the Cats this year.

The Sydney club hope Cadman can eventually play a similar role in the New South Wales capital.

“He ticks all the boxes you really want from a key forward, he does it all,” AFL great Leigh Montagna told Fox Footy draft coverage.

Cadman is 195cm tall and has already earned a reputation for taking strong notes overhead.

The athletic left-footer has averaged six points and 14 eliminations in the Nationals – as well as scoring 10 goals – on his way to All-Australian selection.

Cadman also won the best and fairest of the Greater Western Victoria Rebels after scoring 34 goals. for the season.

“It’s so special. Never in a million years would I have thought I would be in this position,” the teenager said on stage after being named first choice.

“Sharing it with my family and my friends, and all those people in the room, it’s super special.

“We haven’t talked too much about the position I’m going to play, it’s more where I’m going to stay and who I’m going to stay with (in Sydney).

“I can’t wait to get in there and meet all the boys.”

Cadman received a Giants jersey from small forward Toby Greene.

Greene is a polarizing figure in football, with a knack for getting under opponents’ skin and infuriating rival fans.

Cadman had the crowd laughing when asked to meet Greene on stage.

“I’ve shook his hand before and had a great chat with him, he’s the best guy I’ve ever met,” he said.
