Guy Vallancien, whose appointment to the Bronner commission set up to fight fake news and conspiracy has caused controversy, has announced that he is stepping down from the commission. He denounced a “despicable smear campaign”.
Professor Guy Vallancien, urologist questioned by some of his peers, announced on October 7 to AFP his withdrawal from the commission on conspiracy and disinformation recently installed by Emmanuel Macron, because he considers himself a victim of a “smear campaign”.
“I am withdrawing from the” Lights in the digital age “commission,” declared Professor Vallancien, who denounces a “shameful campaign of despicable and deceptive denigration” after his appointment to this body made up of about fifteen academics and personalities, and chaired by sociologist Gérald Bronner. The latter confirmed to AFP the departure of Professor Vallancien, without further comments.
“It was I who decided to leave and I said so at the Elysee Palace. I could have stayed but that would have created conflicts within the committee, that is not healthy. There was no right solution, but I took the one that seemed to me to be the freest and most honest, ”he said.
This renowned urologist who treated former President François Mitterrand had notably just been questioned by the pulmonologist and whistleblower Irène Frachon, who accuses him of having “denied the seriousness” of the Mediator affair.
His name is further cited by The Express in the scandal of the Center du don des corps at the University of Paris-Descartes. The magazine had mentioned his role and that of his limited company (the European School of Surgery, created in 2001 within the University) in what amounted to an operation of resale of corpses, for profit, to industrial players
“It’s the most difficult for me” because “I have no responsibility” in this case, continued Professor Vallancien.
Finally, he had recently been blamed by the Order of Physicians for having drawn up a “false” medical certificate.
