Gunman arrested at Robert F. Kennedy Jr. event in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — An armed man was stopped by security and then arrested by police before the start of an event with Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Friday evening with Los Angeles’ Hispanic community.

According to sources, the man arrived at the event and claimed to be employed by the organizers. Campaign security officials, however, did not recognize him and detained him until the police arrived.

The man was in possession of a handgun and ammunition. He will likely be charged with impersonating a police officer or federal agent, and possibly illegal firearm possession, according to Breitbart News sources.

The Kennedy campaign is sensitive to security concerns, given the tragic history of the Kennedy family. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, and Senator Robert F. Kennedy – the father of the current candidate – was assassinated in 1968 in Los Angeles, shortly after winning the California Democratic presidential primary.

In July, Kennedy noted that the Biden administration had denied him Secret Service protection, despite the fact that he had requested it from the Department of Homeland Security, and had extensively documented the need for it.

Kennedy is gaining ground on President Joe Biden in some polls, although he remains far behind overall. Many Democrats say they would like to vote for a candidate other than the incumbent president.
