GOP ‘The Rot Wasn’t Just Donald Trump’ – ‘Many Leaders’ Should Be Investigated by DOJ

Former acting solicitor general Neal Katyal said Friday on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that the “rot” that led to the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, was not just from former President Donald Trump. , but other executives who should be investigated by the Department of Justice.

Guest host Jason Johnson said: “We’re starting to see more incriminating evidence leaking out. We see how deep the plan to steal the 2020 election was. Newly leaked text messages obtained by CNN show Senator Mike Lee and Congressman Chip Roy going directly to Mark Meadows to fully support the fraud allegations being pushed by Trump and the MAGA team.

Johnson asked, “We know this is bad and exposes what the Republicans were trying to do, but what can the DOJ do with texting with the case they are now pursuing?”

Katyal replied, “I think they can do a lot. And even before you get to the DOJ, I think that paints a bigger picture of what the January 6 investigation is. And I think a lot of us have wondered, “Why didn’t the Republican Party care more about what happened on January 6?” You know, right after it happened, Mitch McConnell and others condemned it and so on. And I think these texts today, Jason, are starting to point to an answer, which is that the rot wasn’t just Donald Trump. It goes to many party leaders.

He added: “Mike Lee just voted against Ketanji Brown Jackson on the Supreme Court because he said she wouldn’t uphold the Constitution. My God, these texts show that this guy was involved in the conspiracy from the beginning. Going too far calling Sidney Powell a direct shooter and saying the White House should meet with her. Then when Powell seemed crazy to self-proclaimed Constitutionalist Mike Lee, he then pivoted to the next craziest person, John Eastman, and told the White House to listen to this guy. All of this explains why politics has been what it is, which has made it almost a partisan thing when it shouldn’t be. Yes, I believe this evidence can be used in a Justice Department investigation.
