One of the Republican Party’s biggest donors is pushing to defeat Arkansas Senator John Boozman in next year’s GOP primary.
Dick Uihlein, a prominent Conservative megadonator, is donating $ 1 million to a newly formed super PAC aligned with Republican Jake Bequette, according to a person familiar with the contribution. Bequette is an Iraq War veteran and retired NFL player who challenges Boozman.
Uihlein, an executive at an Illinois shipping and supply company, has a long history of donating to anti-establishment causes. Earlier this year, he presented a check for $ 2.5 million to a super PAC supporting Missouri Senate hopeful Eric Greitens, a former governor who resigned after being accused of sexually assaulting her hairdresser. Leading Republicans have expressed concern that if Greitens wins the primary, it would jeopardize the party’s chances of retaining the seat in 2022. In recent years, Uihlein has also supported major GOP challengers running against the governor. from Illinois at the time and another Republican senator.
