Google suspends engineer who claimed its AI system is a person

Google has suspended an engineer who claimed an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by the company had become sentient, telling him it violated the company’s privacy policy after it denied his claims.

Blake Lemoinesoftware engineer at Alphabet Google, told the company it believes its Language Model for Dialogue Applications, or LaMDA, is a person with rights and may well have a soul. LaMDA is an internal system for creating chatbots that mimic speech.
