Google offering boosted Pixel 8a trade-in values for older phones

Google just launched the Pixel 8a and, through the Google Store, is offering the device for free with select trade-ins. If you’re also upgrading from a previous Pixel A-Series device, Google is offering some pretty good trade-in deals with the Pixel 8a.

Trade-in deals have become one of the main ways to upgrade your smartphone over the past few years, and the Pixel 8a is no different. Google says this will offer buyers up to $500 off the Pixel 8a – making the device free – with select deals. Values vary, but the highest prices can of course be found with iPhones. The iPhone 14 Pro Max will run you $499 regardless of storage option.

The best values on the Google Store are found with higher-end devices, but there are some pretty solid values with older Pixel A-Series devices.

The Pixel 7a will set you back $200, while the Pixel 6a will get $180 in return. Since these devices are often sold on the used market for less than $250, Google’s offer is a quick and easy way to upgrade.

The Pixel 4a, which no longer receives updates, also gets $160, which is a particularly good deal. Google will also give you $175 for the OnePlus 9 Pro, which is a surprisingly good deal.

We’ve rounded up some key trade-in offers below, all based on good condition devices in their lowest storage option.

Oddly enough, Best Buy has yet to launch trade-ins for the Pixel 8a. The retailer usually offers trade-in deals when pre-ordering, but nothing is available yet. Presumably that will come later. But in the meantime, Best Buy is offering the Pixel 8a with a $100 gift card and $100 off when you activate it with your carrier. This is by far the best deal currently available.

Amazon is also offering a $100 gift card with the device, but again with no trade-in.

Google Pixel 8a starts shipping on May 14. You can read our how-to article here.
