Google is celebrating “Hispanic Heritage Month” in the United States with a doodle celebrating Luisa Moreno, a Communist Party member who taught in Cuba after dictator Fidel Castro took power in the late 1950s.
The tech giant, currently defending itself in a high-stakes antitrust trial in Washington DC, is infamous for honoring left-wing extremists in its “scribbles”, which appear on its flagship web search page on special occasions .
Google Doodle for communist Luisa Moreno (Google)
In the past, Google has used the doodle to honor a black nationalist and national committee member of the Communist Party of America, as well as an associate of Malcolm X who expressed admiration for terrorist leader Osama bin Laden.
Today’s Google honors Luisa Moreno, a far-left labor activist who was a member of the American Communist Party in the 1930s. After communist strongman Fidel Castro took power in Cuba in 1959, Moreno traveled to the country and gave lessons.
It’s unclear why Google decided that praising a communist was an appropriate way to celebrate Hispanics. Latin America has had many far-left leaders and far-left popular movements, it’s true, but it also has many on the other side of the political spectrum.
Javier Millei, a staunchly anti-communist libertarian, is currently the favorite to become Argentina’s next president, for example.
The Central American nation of El Salvador is currently led by a right-wing populist, Nayib Bukele, who has enjoyed growing popularity among its citizens since the crackdown on the violent drug cartels that once dominated the country. Thanks to Bukele’s actions, which led to the arrest of more than 70,000 people affiliated with gangs, homicides in the country fell by 60 percent.
This is an impressive achievement by any measure, one that has objectively improved the lives and economic situation of Salvadorans. But given that Bukele is not a communist “civil rights” leader, he is unlikely to be honored in a Google Doodle for Hispanic Heritage Month any time soon, based on Bukele’s past behavior. tech giant.
