GM will offer franchise buyouts to U.S. Buick dealers

General Motors will offer buyouts to U.S. Buick dealerships as an alternative for franchise owners who don’t want to make the investments that will be required as the brand goes all-electric, an executive said.

Buick Global Head Duncan Aldred confirmed in an interview that all of Buick’s approximately 2,000 U.S. franchise dealers will have the option to take a buyout. A buying-out dealership would abandon the Buick franchise and no longer sell the brand, although nearly all Buick dealerships also sell other GM models. Mr Aldred is due to present the plan at a virtual dealer meeting on Friday.
