Glenn Hoddle says England will be feared at Euro 2020 and has high hopes for Mason Mount after watching Chelsea starlet leave Thomas Tuchel seduced

Glenn Hoddle believes England will be feared at Euro 2020.

England are one of the bookies’ favorites to win the tournament this summer given the talent manager Gareth Southgate has.

Hoddle insists rival countries won’t like playing England, with captain Harry Kane in the lead and surrounded by exciting attacking talents like Phil Foden, Mason Mount and Jack Grealish.

“We have a chance,” Hoddle told talkSPORT at a Betfair event.

“There are quite a few countries that will say they have a chance. The favorites will be France.

“But with England we have such an attacking team and a team that can be feared by our opponents.

“The slight problem for me is defensively, as we all know. Harry Maguire, if he’s in good shape, will be a huge bonus.

“Gareth has some decisions to make defensively. In the future, we should really take center stage in many ways.

“We have players that a lot of countries will fear and love to have on their squad.”

Hoddle believes the key for Southgate this summer will be giving his players a platform to take their club’s form into the tournament, as he has particularly praised the Chelsea Mount ace.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise since the European champion’s multiple loan spells with the Blues, and Hoddle has been extremely impressed with his run.

Is there more glory on the way?

“He went to Derby with Frank [Lampard] and Frank saw what he could do as a player, brought him back to Chelsea and put him straight into the first team, ”said the former Three Lions boss.

“The challenge, for me, and where it is doing so well is when [Thomas] Tuchel picked up, he didn’t play in the first game, he was on the bench and my eyebrows were raised, “oh, we’re going to have to see how he reacts here”.

“I remember the game, I was covering it, and it came for the last 20 minutes and my word, it was almost like, ‘I’m still proving myself to a new manager’, and in those 20 minutes, he created two chances and had a chance himself which he almost scored.

“It was almost like he punched the manager in the eye and then the manager said, ‘Wow, I have to look at this guy, I have to play him and see what he can do.’ He has been on the side ever since.

“I think that says a lot about Mason Mount, he has such good skills but he’s ready to work for the team, he can play a bigger role if needed.

“But he affects the game and he has to play like that for England.

“This is where England and Gareth Southgate will get the most out of Mount and Foden, saying ‘these are your positions, you know how to play them, go play them like you do for your clubs”.

The pressure will likely be on Southgate if England fail to succeed in their Euro 2020 tournament.

Hoddle knows all about this pressure having taken charge of England after Euro 96, when they reached the semi-finals at home.

Hoddle, who couldn’t lead England past the round of 16 at the 1998 World Cup, added: “It was difficult, but it was good because England and the nation were in the middle. outposts. Yes, it put a little more pressure on me as a manager.

“Before Euro 1996 we played every home game at Wembley, there was no away game. It was relatively easy for the England team to fold.

Hoddle ruled England for three years in the 1990s

“We were close in the tournament, the semi-final against Germany could have gone both ways.

“But then we had to qualify [for the 1998 World Cup] and going to Poland, Georgia and Italy was a totally different scenario than the one used by the England team.

“So within the camp it was difficult and different. And also for the public, the pressure was there.

“Being an England manager was a big task and you have to deal with the pressure. If you can’t handle that pressure you shouldn’t be an England manager.
