12 years have now passed since that fateful quarter-final in South Africa, when Luis Suarez was sent off for preventing a certain winning goal with a handball in play in the dying seconds of extra time, only for Asamoah Gyan to miss the resulting penalty and Ghana fell heartbreakingly in the shootout.
Ghanaian fans still hold a lot of animosity for this divisive act of Suarez branded a villain in some parts and a genius in others, which adds extra spice to a key clash in the final round of Group H matches.
A revenge win here would be enough for the Black Stars to reach the knockout stages for the third time since 2006, while a draw would also be acceptable if South Korea failed to beat Portugal.
Uruguay, meanwhile, are in must-have mode after following a stalemate against Korea with a loss to the Portuguese, with nothing less resulting in an elimination. They need the three points and a favor from Cristiano Ronaldo and Co to Al Rayyan.

Ghana vs Uruguay Team News
Ghanaian defender Gideon Mensah has insisted he will be fit for Friday’s game after coming off late in the thrilling 3-2 win over South Korea, revealing he was simply suffering from cramp.
Mensah had been brought in to replace Baba Rahman, on loan from Chelsea, at left-back.
For Uruguay, it will be interesting to see if Suarez plays against the team that probably doesn’t like him the most, after being dropped on the bench and limited to a late substitute cameo against Portugal, with Edinson Cavani starting. alongside Darwin Nunez at the top instead.
Key defender Ronald Araujo is yet to feature in this tournament as he recently underwent thigh surgery and reports suggest Uruguay and Barcelona are at odds over his recovery.
Ghana vs Uruguay Prediction
Ghana have been huge entertainment value at this World Cup so far, surviving Korea after narrowly missing against Portugal in another five-goal thriller.
Drama, goals and action galore seem guaranteed whenever Otto Addo’s side are involved, but will that always be the case against Uruguay?
La Celeste are yet to score a single goal in this tournament and indeed put up two very lackluster performances.
But three points being an absolute necessity, they could well let go of the handbrake here and show their quality.
Uruguay winner, 2-1.
