Gervonta Davis paused in the middle of her fight with Rolly Romero late last month to insult her opponent’s trainer.
The American lightweight star moved to 27-0 (25 KOs) with the win over his bitter rival, who had a lot to say about him in the buildup.
There was certainly no love lost between the two sides before the fight.
Tank and Rolly exchanged words several times when they met at press events.
On top of that, the trash talk has of course continued on social media.
A key element in all of this was Rolly’s trainer, Cromwell ‘Bullet’ Gordon, who was particularly vocal in believing his man would emerge victorious.
Despite Rolly’s significant underdog status, Bullet was confident throughout the buildup that he would emerge victorious.
In the end, that turned out not to be the case.
In the early rounds however, Rolly had more success than some expected.
The taller American used his range to box his smaller foe effectively at times in the first five rounds.
In the sixth though, it all fell apart.
Now, it’s been revealed in the epilogue to Showtime’s All Access documentary covering the fight that there was a fun exchange between Gervonta and Bullet before the knockout.
As round six began, cameras and microphones at ringside captured Bullet yelling at Rolly, “Pack it Rolly, you can send Tank.”
Rolly didn’t answer, but Gervonta did.
He paused mid-fight, turned to his rival’s trainer, and yelled back, “Shut your bitch.”
Then, moments later in the same round, Tank proved that Rolly actually couldn’t box him after all.
He countered his opponent with a nice left that floored him and left him unable to continue.
Gervonta handed Rolly his first professional loss and also gave his coach a verbal beating, all in the space of three minutes.
