Republican flyer George Conway offered a candid assessment of what could happen to Rudy Giuliani, the former personal attorney for ex-President Donald Trump whose business dealings are currently under scrutiny by the FBI.
“I think he’s in deep shit,” said Conway, a vocal critic for Trump throughout his presidency despite his wife Kellyanne Conway’s high position in the administration, in Monday’s episode of the podcast The Daily Beast “The New Anormal”.
Federal agents seized electronic devices during raids on Giuliani’s home and office in Manhattan last week. The investigation centers on the ousting of Marie Yovanovich from her post as US ambassador to Ukraine, Reuters reported.
Giuliani denies wrongdoing.
But Conway said the fact the raids took place is a very bad signal for the former New York mayor.
“The Department of Justice doesn’t like executing search warrants against lawyers and the reason they don’t like that is because they don’t want to get into messy lawyer-client privilege disputes,” explained Conway, a lawyer.
Conway detailed the extensive process involved in obtaining search warrants against attorneys, involving specific authorization from senior Justice Department officials.
“That tells you a lot here,” he added. “Because even though there is a probable cause standard for any search warrant, where you have to show that there was probable cause that a crime was committed and there is reason to believe that the execution of the search warrant will provide proof of this crime, in which case they must have done much, much more than that.
