Gennady Golovkin names Canelo Alvarez’s biggest weakness and claims boxing judges ‘are not loyal’ to Mexican superstar ahead of their trilogy fight

Gennady Golovkin thinks arrogance is Canelo Alvarez’s biggest weakness as a fighter and he plans to punish him for it when they meet for the third time this weekend.

The big middleweight is set to move up to super middleweight to challenge his bitter rival for his undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO world titles in their trilogy bout on September 17.

In 2017, Golovkin and Canelo shared the ring for the first time in a hugely entertaining and competitive 12-round bout that ended in a disputed draw that many believe robbed the Kazakh fighter of a win.

The following year, Canelo won a narrow majority decision in their rematch, but GGG still insisted he had won both fights and now would have his chance for revenge.

Golovkin was happy to see that WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol was able to beat Alvarez earlier this year thanks to ringside judges who all scored their fight 115-113 in his favor.

The 40-year-old thinks this could bode well for his next fight with Canelo who he believes no longer has the judges on his side after winning a few questionable decisions during his career.

“In his last fight, the knockout was not necessary [to beat him],” Golovkin told the NY Daily News.

“It’s encouraging that the judges are no longer loyal to Canelo. They don’t feel that burden of his image.

Golovkin expressed his belief that one of Canelo’s personal bad traits runs through his life as a boxer and that it is something the 168-pound king will be punished for in their trilogy fight.

“Arrogance. And arrogance is punishable,” he added when asked what was Canelo’s biggest weakness as a fighter.

In the same interview, GGG encouraged people to never forget that Canelo delayed their second fight after testing positive for the banned substance Clenbuterol and was suspended from boxing for six months.

“I don’t think it can ever be forgotten,” Golovkin insisted.

“Some people have accepted this situation. Some people don’t want to keep thinking about it. Some look away. »
