Gareth Southgate plans to throw FOUR full-backs in England’s Euro 2020 opener against Croatia with Manchester United ace Luke Shaw seen as center-back

Gareth Southgate could start four full-backs for England’s Euro 2020 opener against Croatia.

According to The Telegraph, Ben Chilwell, Luke Shaw, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier are all in line to take part in the Three Lions clash in Group D at Wembley – live on talkSPORT.

Manchester United ace Shaw could be deployed as left center-back as he seeks to plug the hole left by Harry Maguire, who is still sidelined after injuring his ankle with the Red Devils in May.

Southgate trained in a 3-4-3 lineup, with a combination featuring Shaw in the final three – a position he has occasionally held for United in the 2020/21 campaign.

Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell are expected to fit in as left-back, with LaLiga title winner with Atletico Madrid Kieran Trippier occupying the opposite flank.

Kyle Walker, meanwhile, will likely replace right-center-back alongside his Man City teammate John Stones, who will play in the middle of the final three.

Southgate never used Shaw in this system during his five-year reign as England boss, showing just how much of a headache Maguire’s injury turned out to be ahead of the tournament.

Stones is a certainty for center-back, despite Tyrone Mings playing at center-back in warm-up matches against Austria and Romania.

Conor Coady and Ben White are also options in central defense, the latter being the last to be called up to the 26-man squad following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury.

Southgate also has a headache with his offensive formation, with so much attacking talent at his disposal.

The Three Lions have had one of their strongest teams in years and their exciting young attacking talent has made them among the favorites to win the competition.

Southgate has experienced different lineups in friendlies against Austria and Romania and it’s still unclear who his favorite starting XI is.

Here’s how England could line up for their first Euro 2020 match …
