Gareth Bale tipped to consider Rangers move as Ally McCoist jokes about golf courses that could persuade Wales star to head to Scotland – ‘Fans will love it’

Ally McCoist has urged Gareth Bale to join Rangers this summer, joking that local golf courses might be enough to tempt him to Scotland.

The Wales star faces an uncertain future following the end of his contract with Real Madrid.

As a result, the 32-year-old is on the hunt for a new club as he seeks to ensure he is fit for Rob Page’s side when Wales travel to Qatar for the World Cup at the end of the year.

A number of clubs, including Cardiff City, are reportedly keen on a move for Bale, but according to McCoist, a move to Scottish giants Rangers could be the perfect match both on and off the pitch.

Bale spends a lot of time on the golf course and Scotland is the birthplace of golf, with a number of iconic courses, such as St Andrews – where the 150th Open will be held in July.

McCoist told talkSPORT: “If I was Rangers I would go and get him something too.

“Look, he’s at a point in his life where he wants to have fun. We all know he is a huge golf fan, we have the best golf courses.

“I would bring him here and say, ‘Look, spend a year here.’ Fans will love it, absolutely love it.

McCoist added: “I know the argument would be there was a disappointment with Aaron Ramsey, he wasn’t 100 per cent fit, I understand that.

“He’s on stage now, would America be an option? I don’t know him so I can’t speak for him but it seems like this is a time when he wants to enjoy the last two or three years of his playing career.

“And that’s what I want it to be. I don’t want him to crumble as a full player for half an hour.

“He didn’t look as sharp as he did (against Ukraine), but he won’t be.

“At the same time, come on guys, he still has a lot to offer.”
