Gabby Agbonlahor jokes he’s applying for a job at Leeds after months of asking for ‘stubborn’ Marcelo Bielsa to be sacked

Gabby Agbonlahor hasn’t held back when it comes to Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa since returning to the Premier League.

And he couldn’t resist a little joke at their expense on social media after their beloved manager left the club.

Bielsa spent three and a half years at Leeds

The Aston Villa hero has warned them for months that they risk being relegated unless their head coach is willing to adapt his tactics.

Agbonlahor was given some vindication as the Argentine mutually agreed to leave Leeds with the club embroiled in a struggle to maintain their top-flight status.

There have been plenty of playful and good-natured banter between the former Premier League star and Leeds fans over the past 18 months.

Agbonlahor was content to twist the knife after one particular poor performance, which has become more and more frequent in recent weeks.

Leeds have delivered just as well, however, with their Twitter account even posting his remarks last season where he called Bielsa a ‘myth’.

Now that Bielsa has left the Yorkshire club, Gabby couldn’t resist a little Instagram post that is sure to get her fans excited.

On Saturday night, when talkSPORT announced Bielsa had left the club, he posted a picture of his UEFA B coaching licence.

He wrote: “Looks like it’s the end of the road for Bielsa. I’m going to apply for the Leeds job and hope to get it until the end of the season.”

Agbonlahor even received an indirect compliment from fellow talkSPORT host Simon Jordan who disagreed with his assessment that Bielsa should be sacked.

He wrote on Twitter: “#lufc … Bielsa disappeared I hear!

“Oops, maybe I should apologize to the half-spirit @ga11agbon as it will be here! Rb Salzburg former manager???”

Reacting to early reports on Saturday that Bielsa was to be sacked, Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: “During the week I was on the Breakfast show and the Leeds fans agreed with me.

“They said they loved him and they were a god there, but his stubbornness was going to cost them their Premier League status.

“It took them so long to get back to the Premier League.

“He was so stubborn that he wasn’t going to change the way he played, he wasn’t going to learn from his mistakes.

“How many times can you keep getting beat up?” »
