Thomas Tuchel has admitted his side showed great character to secure victory over Norwich City despite testing off the pitch causing stress and scrutiny before the match. The London club won 3-1 against Norwich in the Premier League on Thursday.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the British government on Thursday in his bid to cut off Russian President Vladimir Putin’s resources as the invasion of Ukraine continues. The Russian billionaire, owner of the club since 2003, was in the process of trying to find a buyer for the club, but the proposed sale has now been put on hold and his assets frozen.
The off-pitch questions weren’t about the European champions as they cruised to a 3-1 victory over Norwich at Carrow Road. Goals from Trevor Chalobah, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz secured all three points and ended a turbulent day on a high note.
Tuchel was quick to praise his team for how they produced a great performance under difficult circumstances. The former Dortmund manager also explained how his side’s meticulous routine helped cope with the pressure.
“I don’t think anyone needs to be more focused or motivated. There are a lot of different situations. Today was another level of distraction and another level with everything going on with the penalties. Day to day like the way we get to the game like it’s all set up The schedule for the day helps you get into your routine I’m glad they showed again they like to work hard, hard as a team and that they are able to produce another win. It’s very good and of course that helps,” Tuchel told reporters after the game.
“Full credit, the team showed very good character and we can be proud that they produced such a performance under the circumstances. It tells us that we are right to trust them, that the attitude is good and that the culture of the club is good,” he added.
