Out of a total of 35 appearances and nine goals, former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has had his fair share of epic moments against Manchester United.
All eyes will be on the newly installed Aston Villa manager, who comes out at Old Trafford as his side take on Man United in the FA Cup third round.
talkSPORT EDGE takes a trip down memory lane and shares Stevie G’s best and worst moments at the Red Devils…
Crushing 4-0 loss, 2003
In a battle where Manchester United reclaimed the (then-titled) Premiership heights with a vital victory over fierce rivals Liverpool, Gerrard has most likely erased that moment from his memory.
Sami Hyypia’s tackle on Ruud van Nistelrooy resulted in a red card leaving Liverpool with just 10 men in the opening three minutes. Shock.
Van Nistelrooy’s double penalty along with strikes from Ryan Giggs and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the second half saw the home side beat the Reds.
last minuteearache, 2006
Liverpool’s continued dominance throughout the game was crushed by Rio Ferdinand, who stole all three points for United with a spectacular winning header.
The result gave the Red Devils four points ahead of Liverpool in the league, who ultimately finished in second place.
Kiss of the camera, 2009
Ronaldo opened the scoring, but Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Fabio Aurelio and Andrea Dossena stole the thunder in an epic 4-1 victory.
And it wasn’t just the exceptional result that sparked the pull, it was the infamous celebration of Gerrard’s goal that, to this day, lives in our heads without rent.
After scoring from the penalty spot, Gerrard kissed the TV camera in front of the cheering away fans crowded in the corner.
Red card, 2011
Kenny Dalglish’s first game at the helm of Liverpool should have been a moment of celebration but instead it turned into a nightmare.
In the grueling FA Cup third round game, Liverpool’s hopes for success came to an end after Ryan Giggs scored in the first and only goal and Gerrard was sent off.
A clash with Michael Carrick ended in a red card and Gerrard was sacked just 32 minutes into the cup game – bad timing.
3-0 win, 2014
This time around, winning at Old Trafford was a walk in the park for Liverpool as Gerrard scored two penalties and Luis Suarez completed the treble in the second half.
And in all the excitement, Gerrard recreated the kiss celebration on camera – we loved seeing it.
