From burgers to handbags, Netflix announces new baking show “Is It Cake?”

Netflix is adding another baking series to its streaming service. On Monday, March 7, the streaming giant released a trailer for Is it cake? where each object is not what it seems.

Saturday Night Live Cast member Mikey Day presents an all-new series that showcases the incredible artistic skills of bakers by turning any object into a cake. Once they’ve completed their creations, a panel of celebrity judges will have to determine which object is actually a cake. Celebrities and social media influencers who will be making an appearance on the show include Rebecca Black, Heidi Gardner, Brittany Broski, Bobby Moynihan, King Princess, Michael Yo and many more.

Other baking series on Netflix are Nailed it!, The great British pastry fair, Unable to cook, and sugar rush.

This new show is inspired by other cake artists on social media who post strange videos of normal-looking objects that are actually cakes. People have made almost everything look real to leave viewers puzzled.

A wide variety of things have been turned into cake, leaving many wondering, “Is this real or is this cake?” On Tiktok, people have also pranked their friends and family by “eating” rare items that one wouldn’t usually eat, only for it to be a well-done cake.

As seen in the trailer, many famous judges look stressed as they try to quickly determine which object is real and which is a delicious dessert. Each judge has a keyboard where he types in the number that corresponds to an object he thinks is the cake. The trailer also shows viewers what bakers will be making during the season, including shoes, handbags, burgers, and dinosaurs.

Andrew Fuller, Sam Cade, Dessiree Salaverria, Henu Basu, April Julian, Johnny Manganello, Nina Charles, Justin Rasmussen-Ellen and Steve Weiss will participate in the first season. At the end of the show, the three standing bakers will face off in the final. They are competing to win $50,000.

“I’ve won a lot of cake competitions,” said a determined baker, “and I always love winning.

“What I’m doing is the weirdest thing,” said another contestant. “For example, there are people saving lives and I make the cake look like something else.”

“I want to prove to people that I’m the best of the best at what I do,” said another baker, ready to win.

Is it cake? arrives on Netflix on Friday, March 18.

“Saturday Night Live” star Mikey Day, along with many celebrity judges, put their thinking skills to the test in Netflix’s new baking contest, “Is It Cake?”
