LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WISH) – Rosa Lozano says she couldn’t sleep after Cpl. Humberto Sanchez died in a suicide bombing attack at Kabul airport in Afghanistan.
Lozano remembers the times they spent together inside his home in Logansport.
“He said the training was a bit difficult,” Lozano recalls.
She says she remembers when he sat in her kitchen telling her that her mission was not going to be easy. But he loved his country and wanted to serve. Lozano’s children went to school with Sanchez. She said they were like brothers.
“He had a great friendship with my children. They loved each other, ”Lozano said.
Sanchez also worked with Lozano at McDonald’s. She always loved his dimples and his eyes.
She says she liked the way he spoke and that Sanchez would ask him for advice like a son. Then he told her he was going to enlist in the army.
Sanchez was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Even though Sanchez’s absence leaves a hole in Lozano’s family, she is proud of him because he was certain of the decision he had made.
