Actor James michael tyler speaks for the first time about his multi-year health battle.
In an interview with Today‘s Craig melvin, Tyler — who played Jennifer anistonthe manager of the Gunther café on Friends-said he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in September 2018 after a routine physical exam.
“I was 56 at the time, and they are testing for PSA, which is a prostate specific antigen,” he said on Today. “It came back to an extraordinarily high number … so I knew immediately when I went online and saw the results of my blood test and my blood tests that there was obviously something there. Almost immediately my doctor called me and said, ‘Hey, I need you to come over tomorrow because I suspect you might have a pretty serious problem with your prostate.’ “
As he soon learned, the cancer had spread to his bones. “For my specific prognosis, of course this is stage 4,” he told Melvin. “Cancer at an advanced stage. So eventually, you know, it’s probably going to get me. “
