Friends became enemies Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal to fight at UFC 272 in March after years of blood and gym strife – reports

Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington will finally settle their differences within a UFC octagon after former friends-turned-enemies agree a deal to fight.

Masvidal, who still trains with the American Top Team in Florida, was previously a training partner, roommate and close friend of Covington.

Covington described him and Masvidal as Batman and Robin years ago

Still, “Chaos” clashed with several of the gym’s biggest personalities, including Masvidal and Dustin Poirier, and left in acrimonious terms in 2020.

According to ESPN, UFC executive Hunter Campbell finalized a deal that would finally see the two meet at UFC 272 in March in Las Vegas.

Journalist Ariel Helwani also confirmed that the couple verbally agreed to a fight on that date, although that may change.

Masvidal hasn’t fought since April, when he was cold-knocked out for the first time in his 50-fight career by welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in their rematch.

The 37-year-old was set to face Leon Edwards at UFC 262 in December but was forced to retire due to injury and Covington claims ‘Gamebred’ actually broke his ribs in a fight .

“I’m going to tell you the truth about what happened with Jorge Masvidal for real. I still have people in his gym who still love me, and I’m the People’s Champion for a reason, ”Covington said.

“So I get the inside scoop on everything. So this fragile guy, Street Judas Jorge Masvidal, broke his ribs. He broke his ribs last Saturday in training, and yes, he’s fragile and had to retire from the fight.

“It’s a shame people always love me in their gym more than they even love it.”

Covington also lost his last fight, a rematch against Usman as well, at UFC 268 when he was dropped several times before losing a decision.
