Fresenius Medical to Create New Independent Kidney Care Company with InterWell, Cricket Health

(RTTNews) – Fresenius Medical Care AG says it has entered into a binding agreement to create a new independent kidney care company by combining its Fresenius Health Partners with InterWell Health, the physician organization driving healthcare innovation in the United States, and Cricket Health, an American provider of value-based renal care with a leading data and patient engagement platform.

The new company, which will be majority-owned by Fresenius Medical Care and operated under the InterWell Health brand, is valued at $2.4 billion.

The merger will create an independent entity that will expand into the $120 billion Stage 3-5 CKD market. The new company aims to engage and manage the care of more than 270,000 people with kidney disease by 2025 and manage approximately $11 billion in medical costs in the same year.

The Company currently expects the transaction to close in the second half of 2022. Any accounting gain resulting from the closing of the transaction is not expected to be material to Fresenius Medical Care’s earnings and will be treated as a special item. Fresenius Medical Care expects this part of the execution of its 2025 growth strategy to support the achievement of its 2025 financial targets.
