Frankfurt ultras target West Ham fans with sticks as violence erupts in Seville

The German club beat Real Betis 2-1 in the first leg of the round of 16, 24 hours before the Hammers faced Sevilla in the same city.

UEFA had moved the Frankfurt match a day earlier to avoid the two matches clashing, but footage emerged online nonetheless showing violence breaking out.

A clip showed what appeared to be Frankfurt ultras running en masse down a road, armed with sticks, towards West Ham fans at a bar. Missiles were then launched between the groups.

Another video showed the German club’s supporters rushing their English counterparts with sticks and other objects, as scuffles broke out and Hammers fans pulled out.

It’s unclear what sparked the altercation first, but a number of West Ham supporters have taken to social media to express their anger at the Frankfurt ultras and the actions of Spanish police, with allegations use of rubber bullets.
