Frank proud but gutted after ‘lucky’ Chelsea clings to nervous Brentford win

Homas Frank cursed his luck after Brentford’s bombardment of Chelsea’s goal failed to score a point in Saturday’s thrilling West London derby.

Ben Chilwell put the Blues ahead in a lukewarm game that exploded in the final 20 minutes as the Bees launched a full assault on the visitors’ goal at Brentford Community Stadium.

While manager Frank was delighted with his team’s performance on both ends, he was disgusted that he had failed to produce a famous late strike.

He told Sky Sports: “If you look past the 90 minutes, there can only be one deserved winner: that’s us. And by a pretty big margin, in terms of the number of chances we’ve created.

“We kept the European champions and the Premier League lead with five shots throughout the game. It is very impressive.

“I know they dominated the first half a bit, but in the end we were all over them, and it’s very, very impressive. So [I’m] proud of the performance, happy, and that’s what we have to rely on.

Brentford sit seventh in the table after a strong start to the campaign for their Premier League debut. Frank is determined to use this short-lived loss to build confidence in the future.

The Dane added: “I’m just very proud, very happy. Peak performance over 90 minutes.

“They needed to win, they had a very, very lucky win here today. That’s why it’s so awesome, it adds to the narrative from four months ago because they won the Champions League and we won the [Championship] play-offs.

“It’s all about performance because if we play this game again, we will win. Nine out of ten. It is and we really want to build on it. “
