France: the first ocean liner powered by liquefied natural gas

Published on : Modified :

Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire is building the first cruise liner powered by LNG (liquefied natural gas) in France. It will be delivered in mid-October to the Italian-Swiss shipowner MSC Cruises. At a time when cruise passengers are singled out for their negative impact on the environment, this new ship promises to release little sulfur oxide, but also to produce 25% less CO2 than ships running on fuel oil.
