Secretary of State Clément Beaune regretted the decision taken by Germany to classify the Moselle department in a maximum risk zone due to the circulation of Covid-19 variants. He called for lighter measures.
Germany classified the Moselle, one of the French departments most affected by the Covid-19 epidemic on February 28, 2021 as a high-risk zone, announced the French Secretary of State for European Affairs Clément Beaune, asking Berlin to avoid “strict” controls amounting to a “virtual closure” of the border.
“The German authorities have just classified the Moselle as a variant traffic zone […] which normally implies extremely strict measures of quasi-closure of borders […] We don’t want that, ”he said on France Inter radio.
