France 1-0 Netherlands: Les Bleues face Germany in Women’s Euro semi-final as holders collapse

France reached the semi-finals of the European Women’s Championship for the very first time after a deserved victory in extra time against holders Netherlands.

Les Bleues dominated Saturday’s fourth and final quarter-final at Rotherham and created a host of chances, but found Dutch keeper Daphne van Domselaar and centre-back Stefanie van der Gragt in inspired form.

With a completely one-sided Euro 2022 contest still level after 90 minutes at the New York Stadium, France demanded a penalty from new Chelsea full-back Eve Perisset to break such stubborn resistance and finally end their quarter-final hoodoo in this competition.

Now standing between Corinne Deacon’s side and a place in next Sunday’s Wembley final, Germany in Milton Keynes on Wednesday, the latter beating neighbors Austria 2-0 in their own round of 16 clash.
