Former world champion Ricky Hatton announces boxing return against Marco Antonio Barrera

British boxing great Ricky Hatton is set to return to the ring at the age of 43, a decade after his retirement.

Hatton hung up the gloves in 2012, following his loss to Vyacheslav Senchenko, which itself came more than three years after his previous fight against Manny Pacquiao.

The former welterweight champion now works as a trainer but will be back in action in his hometown of Manchester this summer.

“I can confirm my return to the ring,” Hatton said on his personal Twitter account.

“Join me for a big party night – with top performers – in Manchester on July 2. That’s not how you fall, that’s how you rise…”

Hatton is scheduled to meet Marco Antonio Barrera in an eight-round exhibition bout. The 48-year-old Mexican, beaten by Amir Khan in 2009, last fought in 2011.
