Former Liverpool transfer target Nabil Fekir leads brilliant celebrations with Real Betis fans following their Copa del Rey success against Valencia

Nabil Fekir orchestrated wonderful scenes with Real Betis fans as he celebrated with them after winning the Copa del Rey.

The former Liverpool transfer target helped his side beat Valencia on penalties 5-4 to secure them their first piece of silverware since 2005, which was also the Copa del Rey.

In the club’s hometown of Sevilla, 40-year-old Joaquin Sanchez lifted the cup and in doing so ended their 17-year drought.

One of the game’s best scenes, however, came late in the game, when former Liverpool transfer target Fekir was seen dictating the choreography to the fans in the stands.

He was heard singing along with the supporters, then led them as they jumped up and down excitedly.

Fekir, who joined the Spanish side in 2019, was set to join Liverpool a year earlier but the deal fell apart and he later revealed it was a “dark time” for him.

Fast forward and the 28-year-old was all smiles in front of a raucous fanbase.

On the pitch, it was a close contest in front of a crowd of over 53,000 as both teams created multiple chances, worked each other’s goalkeepers and each found the net once.

Real Betis striker Borja Iglesias opened the scoring in the first half but his effort was canceled later in the period as Hugo Duro produced an excellent chipped effort.

While a penalty shoot-out is a difficult way to settle a match, it was necessary to separate the two teams, and unfortunately for Valencia’s Yunus Mensah, his failure proved costly.

It only gave Betis their fourth major trophy, having lifted La Liga in the 1934/35 season, which was then followed by two Copa del Rey successes in 1977, 2005 and now 2022.
