UPDATE: Hawkins County Jail officials told News Channel 11 that Donald Wells was no longer in custody when asked if he had been released on bail. No arraignment date or arrest report has been released.

According to the Hawkins County Mobile Patrol record keeping app, Wells was released at 7:34 a.m. on October 31.

HAWKINS COUNTY, Tennessee (WJHL) – The father of Summer Wells, 5, missing from Hawkins County, was arrested on Saturday evening, according to the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office.

Don Wells was reportedly arrested for impaired driving.

According to Sergeant Betty Crawford of the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office, Wells faces multiple charges including drunk driving, having an open container, financial liability violation and others.

Wells’ “financial liability” charges can arise from driving without insurance, as Tennessee law requires drivers to provide proof that they can pay for repairs or damage after certain charges or accidents.

The most common way to comply with financial liability laws is to purchase auto insurance. Drivers can also make cash deposits with the Tennessee Department of Safety.

Wells was also charged with improper lane use, which Tennessee law says in part that a “vehicle should be driven as close as possible entirely in a single lane and should not be moved from that lane until that the driver has first checked that the movement can be done safely ”

Wells was held on $ 5,750 bail and was released at 7:34 a.m. on October 31, according to Hawkins County records.

Wells’ daughter Summer Wells was reported missing from her home in the community of Beech Creek in Hawkins County on June 15, 2021.
